Codgerly is where it's at with the pipe smoking. It's supposed to be simple and enjoyable, not meticulous and full of nuance. We can leave that to the "you-know-who's !"
I hear that, brother! I started smoking the pipe on the late-ish side of life, and after a couple of years of trying this-n-that for all the fancy reasons, I realized that I just really liked the taste and aroma of stuff like Prince Albert and the like. Simple and easy. Nothing sophisticated. Heck! I couldn't taste all the "nuance" anyway! LOL!
Lol...
In the pipe smoking world the searchers of nuance are like wine drinkers, sipping and smelling and twirling their glasses, holding it up to the light, spitting it out and talking about this and that... just give me a shot and a beer.
Fraiser & Niles Crane, but with pipes. Yep...gimme a beer. And please, nothing that tastes like fruit salad.

I smoke mostly the American style light aromatics...the codger blends...pretty much all the time. Occasionally I'll dig out a VA flake or something, but it's mostly codger-time year 'round.

I like to smoke Virginia flakes, Orlik Golden Sliced being my favorite. There is a lot of Peter Stokkebye Luxury Navy Flake in my tobacco cellar so that has been a staple this year. If it is really a scorcher out I like some Frosty Mint in a cob dedicated to just that. I may need to add Frosty Mint to the list for the next tobacco order I make for the cellar! Running low on that stuff.
