So , this morning I was able to smoke my first bowl of RL - PR ... [ Wildcat ] , which is one of a number of cubed burley blends by Sutliff.
Its different and I don't mean that in a ... " oh , thats interesting " tone that your mom used when you taxidermized crows wings on to a squirrel wearing a frankie goes to Hollywood tee shirt . No , I mean its actually interesting
This isnt a review btw
I didn't expect latakia and I didnt expect flavoring . I think the reason why I didn't expect those things was because all the Sutliff burley cubes Ive smoked thus far are not flavored or super slightly perhaps and none have had a thought of Latakia .
So , with that in mind , early on in the bowl ... I was thinking .... Whats going on here .. red burley or is it another burley with some kind of flavor ? Whoa , is that latakia ? Maybe theres fire cured in here etc ..............
It was quite a trip . Now , I dont mean to make it out like it was weird ... it isnt . Its really damn good but I have yet to get my head around it . Im only one bowl in , after all
Looking the blend up on line , I see some discrepancies of its contents between e sites
Beware : If youre looking for a PS Cube style or a straight burley cube , like say the old Bestoval blend , this isnt it . This is its own thing entirely and I think its going to be one I really enjoy

Sutliff sez:
"RL-PR BLend (Cube), Another American style mixture with a twist. Straight Burley cube lightly cased with the natural extracts of prune, molasses and rum."
Mmm...prunes!

John, I'm glad you're digging it! I couldn't figure it out and trust me I tried. At the end of the day, the whole experience helped me figure some things out about myself.Ruffinogold wrote: ↑Thu Jan 21, 2021 3:42 pm So , this morning I was able to smoke my first bowl of RL - PR ... I don't want a tobacco I have to rub, chop, cut or dry. I don't want tobacco that I have to think about or coerce flavor from. And sadly, this was, to me at least, that kind of tobacco. It reminded me of the Sugar Barrel matches, which I despise.
I'm also finally admitting to myself that the older I get, my taste buds are starting to retire early. I mean I've never been a great reviewer of tobacco, so perhaps it's always been a "problem." I'm going to be posting a review of Middleton Apple Match (Sutliff Apple) and, trust me, it will probably leave you wanting, lol! (Just a preview, I like it!)
So Ruffinogold I'm stoked you are enjoying it! Many happy puffs bud!!

Im liking the blend but ive only had three bowls . Tomorrow , its the only blend Im smoking .. in probably 3 different pipes

I feel that I owe a big debt of gratitude to @Ruffinogold for giving this blend a boost. If I'm not smoking something GH, or either Amphora Kentucky or Virginia, I'll be smoking this.
Strikes me as the Sutliff ERR, but they switched out the cocoa for prune. And, no, not in a month of Sundays of smoking this would I think "prune!"; I'd just think that it was a slightly sweetened take on ERR, without the tendency for the cocoa to build up in my mouth after smoking a number of pipes in a row.
It's great, and it's cheap! Thanks for the recommendation!
Bonus blend: RL-BD. Good, but I much prefer the PR. This take on the Barking Dog blend of old is a little heavy on the rum for my liking. Maybe once it airs out awhile I'll like it more? It does have just the right amount of Latakia for me: barely there.
