I have in the past:
1) squared off the end, sanded it down smooth and kept going. My brother still smokes a little apple shape that I reshaped the end on. You’ll need to funnel the opening a little.
2) used charcoal and super glue to build up the area and sand it back flush though not on such a large missing section.
3) replace the stem. A number of online sellers offer stems. Find one close to the old size and with a little application of hand tools and sand paper you can make it fit. If you have to bend the stem put a pipe cleaner or two in the airway so it doesn’t collapse while it’s warm and being bent.

Yeah, was considering that. Figured if I destroy it trying to modify, I'll replace it. Like I said, just a lil ol' basket it pipe, but it does smoke the heck outta some Haunted Bookshop. Plus my kids got it for me.

How on earth did that happen? Those just don't break off without force.

It was already the slightest bit askew, I put a pipe cleaner through it and it pipe cleaner got stuck. My dumb brutish mind thought to just pull it out and it finished bending it....completely apart.
