There is a bronze statue of Mel Ott in the center of the Gretna, a tiny city just a short ferry ride across the Mississippi River from downtown New Orleans, if you are interested. "Master Melvin." He was a native son.

I've posted this before, but it's great so here it is again. I have a folder on imgur filled with old pipe and tobacco ads. I use it on my computer for my screensaver, and it never fails to make me happy when I sit down after being away for a minute. Sometimes I just sit and watch it for a while.

If you have an interest in this sort of thing, here you go:

I include this here for the "Golden Scepter" advertisement about mid-way through the article.

I thought is was a reaming tool when I first started researching the Golden Scepter. Turns out is was a knock out pipe tobacco blend. YMMV.

Someone forgot to tell this cowgirl that cigarettes are stinky. I'm glad she is not an elitist!

This reminds me of my days in the U.S. Navy. We could still take smoke breaks then. I understand that's frowned on now.

That guy is a Boatswain's Mate 3rd Class, BM3, a Bo'son. I was a Hospital Corpsman 2nd Class, HM2, a Doc, a pecker checker, or, as Mrs. King is always mortified to hear, a penis machinist. Good old Navy talk, like the only thing I did was check guys for venereal disease. I had a much more distinguished career, the way most Bos'ons did even though we also called them "Deck Apes."

I didn't smoke Chesterfields then. I smoked unfiltered Luckies.

Now, a civilian, I smoke a pipe and machine made cigars. That's why I'm here.

Luckies were and are the best tasting cigarette made. Sooo good. Why? Because it'd toasted. Everything tastes better when it's toasted. No other cigarette comes close, not even Chesterfields, which I also smoked. Camel, fugeddabout it. End of discussion.

Here's a smoke I could get behind, and it would pair with my St Michael medal. Check it out @Ruffinogold and @Whalehead King.
