This Doesn't Belong in New Introductions.....

I had to write a biography for a couple of websites and that got me to thinking I should write a PSF-focussed version. If anyone wants to add their story after this, please feel free. This doesn't belong in New Introductions. It's an old introduction. Most people know me. I'm Whalehead King. I show up in the threads from time to time. I come with a lot of baggage.

I thought I would share:

A Day in the Life of Whalehead King

Dear Pipe-smoking Comrades,

Can I tell you what it is like to be me? Fasten your seatbelts. I am about to bare my soul.

I know many of you think I’m some kind of flashy jet-setting playboy, the best-dressed man at any party, the go-to guy to get things done, a man of leisure, the 1%, a ne’er-do-well Johnny-come-Chapstick.

In truth, I am a shy retiring gentleman. I am the old man reading his newspaper in the farthest corner of your neighborhood corner bar. I’m the guy who is there at noon, for lunch, and leaves by 3:00 so he can log onto PSF for some post-prandial trolling.

I am a businessman. I work for myself. I seem to be good at what I do. I pay my bills. There is something to be said for that last part. Anyone who can support themselves by the sweat of their own brow is okay in my book. I sweat a lot, especially in summer, but that’s because I live in New Orleans.

I have free time on my hands. I read a lot. I write a lot. I paint a little. I cook up all sorts of schemes, most of which never come to fruition. I am a good companion. When I want to be, I can be a raconteur extraordinaire, and I can listen to other people’s stories, too. I am a very good listener.

My favorite foods are plain popcorn, celery, and artificial bacon bits (I consider them a condiment). I never eat white bread but I often buy two Tootsie Pops when I stop by my corner grocery store. Sometimes, I buy two Blow-Pops. I like chunky peanut butter.

I like everyone on PSF.

I have a fondness for OTC tobacco, brylon pipes, metal pipes, drug store pipes, and pokers. I am always on the hunt for a good machine made cigar. Like nickel root beer and trolley rides for a dime, I’m afraid the best machine made cigars are things of the past. I have nothing against Mixture 79. I think L.J. Piretti’s No Name is the one tobacco that separates the men from the boys. YMMV.

It is always a pleasure to log on at day’s end to see what everyone has posted. I appreciate everyone being a member here. I know I am a crank. I am an eccentric. I am not enough of a misfit to go to the Island of Misfit Toys so I find myself on PSF.

Pausing on PSF every day helps me gather my thoughts before I get back to the real work of my night. I appreciate you all, fellow citizens of PSF. Your camaraderie is much appreciated. You have a friend in New Orleans.

I just saw that @Bamarick posted something today, Nov. 9, and that he joined a year ago today. Congratulations, Bamarick!

I saw that you had joined on November 9 and posted on November 9, and that you have 615 posts, as of this writing. I thought, "Man, this guy's been busy for just signing on today." Then I looked at the years.

I think that's great. PSF is only as good as its members.

I did not realize that I had been here a year! How time does fly when I'm having fun!

WK, you're pretty ok in my books. Always enjoy your posts. If I lived in New Orleans, I'd be the old guy in the other corner of your establishment.
