I just have them on my hard drive and use the "upload images" option. They magically get hosted somewhere.

On the phone I select from the "gallery." I just now posted this from the phone to make it worked the way I remembered.

I have an Android with a gmail account and all that. I take the picture on the phone and can access it in Google Photos and save it to the hard drive.

On my phone I use the button circled in this screenshot. After I tap it it lets me either take a picture or choose from those already on my phone.
