That's a great transformation. This could be an entertaining and useful hobby!
Absolutely. I truly enjoy the hobby, and it's the only hobby I've ever had that paid for itself (unless you count putting meat in the freezer from hunting). If I crunched the numbers, I'd wager my buys and resells resulted in at least a 25% cash profit OVER and ABOVE the pipes I kept out of the lot for myself. The only book I ever bought on the hobby was the $20 PIMO's Guide to Pipe Crafting at Home. I bought a few specialized tools, stains and chunks of wax from PIMO, but those expenses were probably recouped in the first six months of me reselling pipes.

Now I'm not suggesting anyone quit their job to refurb pipes (though I would love to do this full time) but as a hobby it can definitely pay for itself - and put a few nice pipes in your rack. :king:

The Grabow is finished. I sanded the stummel with a progression of wet paper 200 - 1500 the waxed and buffed. I didn’t stain it as I liked the color of the high points against the carved portions. Used some obsidian oil on the stem.

Thanks. It is not perfect by a long shot, but I learned a lot in the process, which should help me next time I try something like this.

And, it smokes pretty well, at least with a data set of one smoke.

I wonder about a members-only thread for finds and marking territory. If you tell me you are bidding on something, I won't bid on it. What do you think?

A lot of forums do that. I think it's a good idea.

I think it's a great idea. I also was thinking that a members only sub-forum for in-stock announcements might be a good idea too.
Hopefully I didn't out any of your auctions, Father!
