Ok Maybe Just One More
I am considering a Marlin 1895 with an octagon barrel, or a Ruger No. 1 in 375H&H. No rush. Kind of leaning toward the 1895 since I could load 45-70 fairly cheap, but the one shot Ruger is such a cool gun and that 375H&H would be a solution to any problem known to man. I'm gonna let it percolate in my head long term so I make the right choice.

The cost of reloading those two are not that far apart
You can do crazy things with a .45/70 but it will kill at both ends
Nothing will withstand a 600 grain LFN .458 bullet at 1,200 FPS +/-

I have a Marlin 1895 in 45-70
Loading can be very reasonable for the 45-70 !!
I do both full loads and reduced loads for plinking .
Picked up a 1895 LTDV many years ago

I have an Marlin 45-70 myself (as well as a 375 H&H). I have hunted with both, but I have only shot one deer with the 375. The 45-70 has a proven track record in the field with me with deer, a bear and a wild boar. One time I had a shot at a coyote, and while the 45-70 is an unlikely coyote rifle, it did the job.
