I appreciate Falcons (Vintage American Frames) . . . I received my first matching pair from a pipe smoking Uncle for my High School Graduation near 50 years ago.

Older Grabows are a winner. They made some great vulcanite bits in the day. I have never really warmed up to the ABS ones.
Is your mention to ABS in relation to Dr Grabows, like the newer ones?
I have bought 3 Dr Grabow last summer, all Savoy. As I'm not knowledgeable with these pipes, I could be wrong but it seems like the stems are now made with some kind of plastic rather than vulcanite.
They do kind of look like vulcanite but when you hit them with your finger, it sounds more like plastic than anything else. I find it makes a weird smoking experience because of the feel the material has on the lips.

The ABS is on the new ones.

I kind of like the soft feel of the ABS on the newer Grabows, but the material apparently isn't quite as robust as they seem to have made all the stems with significantly thicker bite. I also dig the feel of the propionate plastic stems that MM uses, despite how easily my eye teeth shred them.

Can't believe I forgot MM. Never had a bad one. I did buy a Legend a few months back where they forgot to plaster in the bottom, and you could see the light of day shining through the sticker, past the draft part of the shank. I sent a message to them about it because I just wanted to make them aware(Maybe a new guy or something on the line?), and even though I told them specifically that I didn't want a replacement they sent me a couple Legends anyway. Good people.

Okay, thanks. Now, what does ABS stand for? 'Cause I have no idea.

I'm not fond of small bowls either. Hey, @Fr_Tom , you need a stack in your collection :D
My favorites, where I never had a poor one, are regrettably defunct, Jarl pipes. Now, the only new pipes I smoke are my own. I figured out what smokes well and what i like, so that's what I make.

Ha! Maybe I do need a stack. Tall bowls always get a damp heel for me. It is probably something in my technique (or lack of it).

Picked up a trio of unknown Legendex pipes, they are inexpensive and made in Italy, they were all very well made smooth briars, zero complaints with them, got lucky there.
Worst experience ever was an EA Carey, not only did the "magic inch" do absolutely nothing at all, the shank and bowl came with hairline cracks. Figured they were just cosmetic, but the shank cracked completely through within a week.
Needless to say I will never buy another EA ever again lol.
