I'm in the process of cleaning and polishing the stem now. I don't have Fiebings Black, I have a few other colors somewhere in the garage I'll have to find.
The only reason I say black, is because for some reason I always visualize something flat black when someone says rat-rod.

Serious as a heart attack. Caveat: That's not pipes I've personally seen/held/inspected. A search of FD-1263 turned that up. Surprisingly, there wasn't any info about it on the Kaywoodie forum.Bruyere_Royale wrote: ↑Sat Jan 26, 2019 11:25 amI don't know if your serious or not? LolKevin Keith wrote: ↑Sat Jan 26, 2019 10:49 amFD is for flush, drinkless. I can't find a reference on the 1263 but every time I did see it it was on the stem of a Super Grain 98b. I think that's it.

FD flush drinkless sounds legit, but according to the chart Kaywoodie calls it a square shank in the 50's and is designated 98s. They change it in the 60's to 98b. Perhaps it was a stock stamp on the rod and I just got lucky. Dunno...Kevin Keith wrote: ↑Sat Jan 26, 2019 12:33 pmSerious as a heart attack. The stem stamp numbers aren't the same as the shape numbers. In this case, a 98b is always mated to a FD-1263.Bruyere_Royale wrote: ↑Sat Jan 26, 2019 12:53 pmFD flush drinkless sounds legit, but according to the chart Kaywoodie calls it a square shank in the 50's and is designated 98s. I dig it! I always hit mine with a heat gun to chase any excess oil out of the pores in the wood before waxing. Seems to help the wax coat keep an even sheenBruyere_Royale wrote: ↑Sat Jan 26, 2019 1:35 pm First coat of Howard's feed n wax, I'll do one more than hit the buffer with some carnuba. I don't have a heat gun. Does a hair dryer get hot enough?Mr Beardsley wrote: ↑Sat Jan 26, 2019 2:31 pmI dig it!
