Wondering if anyone has experience with these. Been thinking about getting a birth year Dunhill. I was born in 1980 and have heard that the Dunhills past the 60s weren't very good :?: I found an affordable Root Briar which is supposed to be their best grade... Are they worth the price compared to say a Peterson or Savinelli?

Unless the market changes, Dunhill estate pipes will retain their value more so than a Peterson or Savinelli. It is a desirable brand. For me, I would have no problem getting an 80s Dunhill. If you like the pipe and it is nice to have a birth-year Dunhill. Being old, I have to get back into the 50s to do so. For me, the line is really drawn at the White Spot, but even then if I liked the pipe and the price was right, I would go there.

I do like the pipe and it's in pretty good shape for the ~200 asking price.....

I doubt you would lose money on the pipe unless you abused it.
Why not if $200 is not part of the milk money?
It costs very little to have a pipe "restored" or you can get it into better than "pretty good shape" yourself.
Do not see any significant downside.

I have '81 and '83 Dunhills that are great pipes. I would not hesitate just based on the year if it is in your budget, etc.

Ha! That '81 would be college graduation. The '83 would be the first anniversary of wedded bliss.
