I cant think of anyone better to add to the Hall of Honor than Tom

Image

Tom was very young when he started working for SM Frank back in the day . I think he started off sweeping the joint as a kid and fast forward some years later had his brother in law running Kaywoodie pipe making in Tampa Florida

I had a great relationship with Tom and was very blessed to have met him . Right now , the best deal , bar none , in the pipe smoking world is the Calabresi Metamorfosi pipes that some folks have on ebay as old new stock , mostly . This was a line created back in the 90's and it replicates the Savinelli filter/no filter option with an adapter etc .. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R ... etamorfosi

Anyway , Tom was one of the nicest people Ive ever met , truly . He imported many a pipe and pipe item from Italy , including Mastro de Paja , which I was and am a fan of . He helped me get my store stocked with amazing product and had a family run business . The accessory items he carried were amazing quality and price , far beyond most every other supplier . If you were in the industry , you would have been very happy to know him . Many shops dal with Lane and folks like that , and theyre fine , but Tom had the better stuff , imo

His office was amazing and had somee of the coolst pipes I've ever seen . I sure wish there were digital cameras back then

Soon , in the future , I'll write a good amount about him

Well you old enabler you! I have looked at his pipes a thousand times and just never pulled the trigger on one, until now. Messaged the seller who said, yes, the large lumberman in the bottom of the photo was available and he will make sure that's the one I get  ImageImage

I have soooo many of his pipe and they are all good. I still have the first pipe I ever got, a Christano "L'artangio." I got it back around '89 or '90 at the PX at Ft Richardson, Alaska. I have no idea how one of his pipes ended up in the PX but that is the only place i could have gotten the thing.
I have carried it with me on so many deployments, jumps, movements, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, mountain biking, kayaking, canoeing, hiking, you name it. It has been with me on at least three continents and in at least five countries. I was smoking it when I was "graciously escort to the aircraft" and informed that I am "persona non grata" in a major european nation. I smoked it when I buried my first wife and our son. I smoked it when I had a "chat" with the men who killed them.
When I really think about it, that pipe and Christ are the two things that have stayed with me through the years. Never failed me. Of the two, I suspect, Christ has far fewer bad side effects and shall last a lot longer but the T. Christiano pipe still has a place of honor on my pipe rack. I still enjoy smoking it, from time to time, when I want to think about the past. I rarely take it out of the house any longer though.
I have added many more pipes, made by him, over the years, and not had a "bad" one yet.

Great post, Ruffingold. I've picked up 3 or 4 Calabresi Canadians over the past few years, and have found them all to be good smokers. I got the first one so cheap that I wasn't sure of the quality. (back in the old PSF days) You assured me it would be a solid pipe...and it has been. Thanks again for the post.

Theres still a guy on ebay with Calabresi pipes . If I was just starting out , or if I didn't already have a ton of pipes , I'd buy seven of them ... one for each day and be " done " .... but , id have to be rational to " be done " . Im just not rational when it comes to pipes but im getting better . I couldn't have just seven .. maybe seven of each brand
