I'm an HM, not a BM. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boatswain ... ates_Navy)

I was talking to Mrs. King about this the other day (really) and how we used to call the Bo'sun Mates "deck apes."

"That's a terrible nickname," she said.

"That's Navy talk. Wanna know what they called corpsmen?"

"Not really."

"Marines and sailors, when they were being respectful, called us Doc. But we were also called Pecker Checkers. My grandfather, though, he was in the Navy, you know, it always tickled him to say the name you're going to like the least: Penis Machinist. 'My grandson is a penis machinist,' he'd tell his old navy buddies with pride. They would always congratulate me and I was right in with them, one of the guys. There's no stigma in that. It's a badge of honor."

"Penis Machinist is a terrible nickname," Mrs. King said.

I still think it's nice to have Maynard aboard, especially since I'm no longer active duty.

One less bell to answer, one less egg to fry...as it were. I like the cut of your jib, Whalehead King .
