I had some fresh herring like that in, I think, Brussels last summer, in a German-style fast food café. They were lightly pickled and served with sliced onions. Delicious.

I bought this pickled herring in wine and dill vinegar at Whole Foods a few months ago. It is absolutely delicious, like nothing else. The savory taste is indescribable, like manna. Whenever the jar gets low, I head over to Whole Foods. The store is not out of my way. I drive past it at least twice a day but the only time I go in when I am running low on this pickled herring.
Try it. You will like it.

Yesterday I shared a tin with my boy's. They prefer tinned sardines over tunafish.
No.1 was hesitant to try it but No.2 is fearless. They both like seafood and sushi so tinned sardines falls right in line.

My mother had sardines on toast this evening:
Who did the fish call when he broke his piano? ... The piano tuna

My mother had sardines on toast this evening:
Did she have kippers for breakfast?
I like how she mashed them up on the toast. That looks like a tasty snack for when the sun is down.

No, she tends to have toast with marmalade on or an apple and slice of bread most days.

Blue? I don't follow you? Blue sardines? (I'm not well up on seafood, unless it's deep fried in batter!
)
The tin itself is pink coloured. Blue???! ... Sorry if I'm missing something, I just woke up!

You're not missing anything I just couldn't tell. The plate has blue accents.
