Pipe Convention in New Orleans?!?

I have heard from an unsubstantiated source the rumor that there is going to be some kind of pipe-and-tobacco confab in New Orleans. Is this true?

Please advise.

I went to the last one, Russ Oulette was there. I lasted about fifteen minutes in the building before I lost interest.

That said, I would not mind having my life interrupted by some PSF members converging on the Crescent City. How many days can it last?

You know where you should stay.

Here is the info I have from another forum. Hopefully we hear good news!

“Toby Ducote (the man behind the New Orleans Pipe Show in 2015) held an initial planning meeting to discuss bringing the New Orleans Pipe Show back sometime in 2024.

Toby has started the search for a location in New Orleans, Metairie or Kenner for the meeting. He is looking at hotels with outside space available for a smoking tent, food & beverage catering and discounted hotel rooms for show attendees. The hotel would also need to have a large meeting room for vendor tables.

He is also looking at banquet/event venues large enough to host the show and with space available for the smoking tent and either catering or space for one or two food trucks.

No firm date has been set but he is looking for a date in the first half of the year.

We will post updates as they become available.”

Finding a venue should be no problem. He will save money going to the suburbs.

I am not going to Kenner. I might go to Metairie depending on how deep it is in the suburbs. I almost never leave the city. The farthest I go into Metairie is just across the parish border. We don't have counties in Louisiana, we have parishes. New Orleans is its own parish, Orleans Parish.

Let me know what is happening. I will be around. This is my home base.

Tell him he should check out Deutsches Haus for a place with a lot of tables. It is not a hotel. It is the German-American club on Bayou St. John. Ample space and they would love to get the business. It is a new building and it is spic and span. It would get people out of the Bourbon Street zone and the Central Business District, into the real city, able to why people love living here instead of staying in the parts that natives avoid.

Food for thought. I don't have a dog in this fight.

I cannot think of a fate worse than a weekend in Kenner.

I learned about Louisiana being parishes by way of Johnny Cash singing Orleans Parish Prison (I think on the live at San Quentin album) My younger brain hadn't heard of that so I went digging into a little history

I'll bet the trip to Mandeville on your scooter would be fun! Metairie would be great.
