Re: clean & De ghost an estate pipe
My go to is ISO alcohol for cleaning, de ghosting, pretty well everything. Stuff cotton balls in the mortise and shank. A deep clean of the shank can be done with dishwashing liquid, and shank brushes. All very economical. The ISO can be purchased at the drug store. Get the highest % available. I tr...

Re: To wax or not?
I don’t have a wheel, but you can wax with dremel with some of the buff attachments. Carnuba application looks great for photos and such, but it does wear off.
Any high quality Carnuba paste wax is fine. Renaissance wax is also a great go to.

Re: Question on a bag of pipes (cob)
Thats a good deal. I mean you could probably get cheaper on ebay, but that would require more work. And if its fun and you enjoy it, I think you’ll be more than happy with your purchase. Check out the Bare Pipe Youtube page. Almost all his videos are on Pipe restoration. I really enjoyed his videos...

Re: Ideas for a Meer Lined Grabow
Well. I took the JB weld out. I did some research. I’m not really sure after reading, how to fix a crack IN the bowl, but the pipe was calling for Plaster Of Paris. Still a few fills to work on, but the old fella isn’t dead yet. https://i.imgur.com/hZVf3q2.jpg https://i.imgur.com/Xt5BLT0.jpg https:/...

Re: The No Name French Surprise
It looks fine . I wasnt sure why you didnt use chemical stripper to take the finish off . The finish on pipes is pretty " weak " in a sense and a chemical stripper , if applied with a bit of control , wont leave anything weird going on . Anyway , the smooth finish is real nice  I ...

The No Name French Surprise
Sometimes they really do fight back. This was originally a yard pipe, lightly smoked. I had no idea why. I scrubbed the pipe with Murphys, and after a two day soak in alcohol the finish was untouched. I couldn’t figure out what I had and reached out to some restorers. It was urethane. That’s right, ...

Re: Ideas for a Meer Lined Grabow
Some pro restorers have used JB Weld for cracks inside the bowl. Finishing up with a coating of sour cream and charcoal. I think I may try it. I’m going for a smooth look. Here’s the latest on the journey thus far.

Re: Ideas for a Meer Lined Grabow
How do you think I could reduce the size of the bowl. I’ve already added a thin layer of JB Weld. I’m just concerned how a bowl this big would actually smoke.
