I might consider the dishwasher approach. I wonder if they dry well or require some sun to properly get dry and absorbent again? Surely there is someone who has tried this and can report on success/failure/issues_with_significant_other.

fair enough...but even being a cheapskate i'm not in this league, very few are. will say that i'm shocked to learn the Chaplain goes thru so many re-run pipe cleaners in a week.

someone here mentioned elsewhere they dry out and re-use balsa filters. i use one No. 2 coffee filter every week day @.03 cents. i don't want to clean them and stretch it to a penny per day... (wasteful, i know).

shooting my muzzleloader rifle, cotton patches are used to seat the roundball on top of the powder, and also to swab/clean the bore. I've known guys who recover the shot patch (as long as it didn't burn too much) and the swabs and launder them. the savings will add up, eh? :bang:

Only time I’ve had to reuse a pipe cleaner is when I had to use an old one I found in my car during drive time
90 percent of my pipe cleaner usage is cleaning up estate pipes or heat shaping stems and I go through a lot!
Just the cost of the hobby so no big deal

It was actually fairly nice. There was a gentleman there who was asking the owner how to clean his pipe. The owner said he did not smoke. I stepped in and helped the guy.

While I was there, it was non-stop business. People were buying mostly cartons of cigarettes. They had jars of tobacco. The 1-Q was labeled "1-Q." I thought I might get a pouch of PA while I was there, but they were out. The owner said a guy came in a couple of days ago and bought every pouch of PA he had in stock.

At one point a woman ran in and announced loudly where bread and toilet paper could be found at local stores.
Is that the one in the Newtown section of Williamsburg, or near that ice rink in Newport News?

I've never given a thought to reusing a patch that has been fired. I've only hunted them down to check for burn-thru. Lordy I need to get to the range to make some smoke!
