Thanks for the alert for the new tobacco, @Ruffinogold! At the rate I smoke, I really don't need to cellar more tobacco - I've got plenty waiting for me to bust into.
But...it's really tempting to grab some of this, being a VaPer coin-cut from Sutliff. That's right up my alley. In fact, I've really been enjoying their 1849 of late, so I can imagine a VaPer with some cavendish a là Flake Medallions would be pretty damned tasty. So I may just have to get some to squirrel away!
Oh man , I hear ya about cellaring . Im good for a while myself . Actually , I boxed up my unopened tins and tossed them is a closet to forget about .... and mainly to make " cellar ' easier to see my jars . Actually , at least half of my jars are vintage stuff and I should probably box them up and toss them in the same closet as the tins , then Id see what I actually have that I usually smoke
Its funny , sometimes Ill be in the mood for a tinned blend , like say MB Navy Flake [ which is really excellent ] , but then Ill think ... jeez , Ill have to dig it out , pop it and put it in a jar etc .. then Im like , yeah , whatever , Ill just smoke whatever is out on my table in the living rom . The tin thing was really fun when you could just order whatever you wanted ... but the original PSF kinda help ruin the good ole days . We could mention a certain blend being awesome and the next day or two it would disappear from stock and some havent really been back since
I cant remember the last bowl of German Royal Jersey Perique I smoked . Thankfully Peterson Elizabethan is a bit similar
Yeah, I have sort of resigned myself to the idea that I will never smoke any Germain's unless it's through sheer luck of finding some in a dusty old shop or the generosity of some fellow I might meet someday. Having only joined the party recently, I only know about the way things have been over the last few years with so many tobaccos being MIA or selling out within minutes. I'm just glad that stuff from SG/GH has become more available again, and that I've learned so much through this forum and the SP forum about other good stuff that IS usually available.
I just order stuff that sounds good now and then and hope for the best. I'm often tempted to grab a pound of one of my favorites, but I know it would likely be forever and a day before I'd get to smoking it because I have so many other things to try already. I'm not retired yet so I simply can't smoke very often.
I guess I better get some of that Elizabethan, though. And some MBGE, and maybe the Plum Cake...you know, just in case.
Yes , lol .... I could just send you some MBGE and Elizabethan to try . Granted , the open MBGE I smoke from currently is from 2013 . I bought a pound recently but havent opened it . Ive got a few different " vintages " of MBGE . Honestly , I think both MBGE and Elizabethan are each " in the middle " , flavor wise , for their type . The 2013 MBGE is a little ricer tasting than a fresh . I dont believe I have any plumcake
Remind me .... this coming winter Ill pop a tin of Germains King Charles or 1820 . Ill post it when I do and just remind me to shoot you some to try . Actually , anyone just ask me and we'll burn up that tin , no big deal
Funny thing about King Charles . Back around 96 , when there wasnt shortages of anything , the one blend that there was a shortage on for a while was King Charles . P&T magazine did an article on Germain and I think that blend was mentioned in it and ... whammo ... it went out of stock a while . I think that was teh first time I can recall a publication or whatever having an effect on the stock of a pipe tobacco product . At that time it was happening with many cigar brands being it was the " cigar boom " years , which I hated . Quality went to shit for years and every quarter the price increases came ... and then some years later Obama stepped in and ruined cigar prices forever . That guy is the biggest douchebag . I so miss buying my monthly box of Punch after Dinner cigars for 58 dollars a box of 25 [ prior to obama ] . They went from 58 to 98 . They are now 150 dollars a box .
I rarely smoke hand mades in any quantity in a months time
Im ranting , I apologize
