No, they do, just not very often. Old ones that weren't kept clean develop some pitting and that white corrosion aluminum gets. I've snapped one or two with little to no effort.
I stand corrected. Although in my past experience with those stingers I've had to use a hack saw to cut them off and not one was as brittle as you described.
Yeah, for the most part they hold up. Plus it's such a soft metal, not too hard to bend/snap a little piece.

It was already the slightest bit askew, I put a pipe cleaner through it and it pipe cleaner got stuck. My dumb brutish mind thought to just pull it out and it finished bending it....completely apart.
Does that one thread still grab? Shouldn't be a problem, maybe file the edge smooth.
That one that looks like a last thread isn't actually a thread it's more of a "sealing ring" if anything. I had hoped it would catch but it does not.

My favorite stinger shape. That must have hurt when it happened.
It did! I just got this pipe a week or two ago, this was my third bowl out of it. Well would have been the third bowl.

I might could be of assistance, let me root around in some boxes and see if there's a donor stem.
Let me know! I would love to have it repaired, this is only the second estate pipe I've bought and I like it better than the meer lined Medico I picked up. That thing tastes weird. Haha

Also, JT. My apologies for hijacking your thread. I hope we both find a way to get our pipes fixed!

I just checked Walker to see what it would cost to have a fishtail made for this 303 I was gifted.. since they are known for this particular replacement. There is a banner on their page that they have shut down their business.. :(

My first thought was that it was Walker Briar Works, too, who could certainly replace the stem with something that is beautiful and indestructible, but only interchangeable between different cob pipes. They must make stems, too. It's what they do.

I love my forever stem from them and I can't even count how many times I've dropped it. I think it cost me $17 but that was, probably, about 12 years ago, so, for what it is, I think it was money well spent. It still looks like new.
