:) A small follow-up question, if you dont mind. You described how the cleaning should be done, but should I even consider cleaning it off at all? Could it affect the taste over time if left as it is now, or is it purely a visual and aesthetic matter?
Just would like to understand where the line is—when should I fix issues with a smoking pipe, and when is it better to leave things as they are? Or should I just go by how it tastes?

Well , if that build up is in the way of the draft hole , Id scrape it down . If its not then it probably wont matter . Knowing myself , Id probably scrap it level . Im weird that way :D

I think you are good.

I tend to just leave things alone and just smoke it until there is a problem of some sort. If the draft hole is blocked with carbon you will know because you won't be able to get a pipe cleaner through it.

The other guys have way more experience than I, but just adding my two cents here: the nub at the bottom center of the bowl looks to me like a small divot from the tip of whatever drilled the bowl - nothing to worry about. The little buildup of carbon above the draft hole is perfectly normal. It'll spread and change over time,
and you'll end up scraping it away sometime down the line when you've decided there's too much cake buildup in the bowl. It's all good.
