Evening all, I have a 'filtered' Missouri Meerschaum and I find myself wondering if there is any point in keep putting filters in.
Anyone just running them without?
MM, need filters or no?

Smoker's option. Some use them, some don't. They function well either way.

I never did like filters in a cob or for that matter, in any pipe. I like the open draw of a pipe without the filter.
The first thing I do with a new filtered MM is remove the filter. Like Ray, I like the more open draw. I find I can make the draw a little less open by packing a little firmer, if desired. Nothing wrong with using filters, I you like them, and many folks do.

That's great folk, thank you.
I may look at making up a short reducer but it's good to know I can ditch the needless cost of filters.
Especially as the filters appear to be a glorified paper tube.

I think they smoke cleaner with the filter, but the filters only last me a few days and they get to be expensive. So, I just break off a little piece of paper towel, twist it really tight, and use that as a filter. A lot cheaper, doesn't impede the draw, and it smokes cleaner. A really dirty pipe filter serves to remind me that a lot more than smoke swims around in that shaft.

The filter isn't overly restrictive in these as it's basically a roach and just keeps the moisture down as far as I can tell.
I'm thinking I'll finish the ones I've got and start roaching instead.
