Pipe racks are overrated. Who has time to put a pipe back into it's own individual place?

A basket lets my pipes hang together and feel less lonely between smokes.

Wooda, what's up with these fellers? Banished from the basket kingdom? Out on parole? Expatriates?

To quote Speaker of the House,

"If they're going to be on our dresser, make it look nice."
Proving my point, I haven't smoked any of those 3 more than once in the last year. The Rhodesian has a button that doesn't quite work for me, the cob is ancient and retired, and the cherry was a failed shop pipe. I have no idea how that one escaped the burn pile...

At one point it was part of a pipe shrine containing a briar, a cob, and a meer with a Zippo and fancy tamper

They get a nicer, newer basket because they're on display.

I won't even tell you about the pipes stashed strategically throughout the home decor. They live a lonely life among the Wife's jarred fairies and driftwood pieces.

Basket for pipes ... it works excellent ! You should see the bag that I keep my " regular " pipes in ... lol . My better stuff is in my pipe cabinet , like Mastro de Paya and stuff like that . I got a couple small racks , they each hold six , for some old Kaywoodies

In most cases, an impressive rack is overrated, more show than function. You can read that sentence anyway you see fit but my mind isn't in the gutter when I tell a lady she has a nice rack. I'm talking about her pipe rack. Oh, yeah, all the time I bump into ladies who have nice pipe racks. Welcome to New Orleans.

As someone who organizes everything in piles willy-nilly, I like the basket system. Personally I use the empty cigar box system, but they are similar.

I have a couple of pipe racks but my pipes usually end up outside the bounds of my racks. They are scattered all over the house where I rediscover them every time I clean my desk, reach for a fresh pair of pants in my closet, start the lawnmower, or open a teakettle to find out what's making all that noise when the water comes to a boil.

There is something to be said about a genius' disarray. Every day is full of pleasant surprises.
