To your point, I have a knockoff Japanese Zippo that belonged to my Father-in-law. I never met him. He died when my wife was nine. He was a marine in the Pacific theater during WWII. According to my Mother-in-law, who has since passed, he had it before the war, used it throughout the war and after, until he passed.
My wife, for the younger members, is what they used to call a change of life baby, meaning her parents were older when they had her.
