I voted for the old only because I use my phone and i have no hovering ability to see alerts and the scroll up arrow blocks the like feature. It may be problematic for cell phone only users.

This may seem nuts but, with the new one I cannot tell if I have already liked a post or not!

After you click on the thumbs up, it is replaced with a check mark to show that you have liked the post.

now on the new one, if you hover your mouse cursor over the number for two seconds a tooltip pops up listing who gave likes

Not helpful on a cell phone though.
