They are honestly not bad pipes. The newer ones suffer from some of the same issues most factory pipes do, like dip staining, copious obvious fills, and wonky drafts. A lot of the older ones are actually pretty dang nice though. My issue with them is that they have the aesthetic that I love and continually fall for.. but they just haven't ever smoked as good as they look - for me.
Stanwell makes a dang nice pipe.. especially the Danish made ones. Even the Italian produced Brushed Black I have is easily as nice as any Savinelli I have owned, sans gurgling.
