I love Texas too. Don't have much experience with anywhere but West Texas. Spent a couple of years there back in the early 1970's and would probably still be there if they only had more trees. Cottonwoods by the creek just don't cut it for a Kentucky hillbilly like me. Got to say they had some great rocks though. Lone Star beer is great ice cold and the horses all spoke English.

In 1984 I was a Texas Highway Patrolman stationed in Pecos County and Malcolm Reimers was Chief Deputy Sheriff in Upton County, just east of us. Old Malcolm was a trip. He was around 70 and he drove like a bat out of the hot place. He knew two speeds. Stop and full speed ahead. He was set in his ways, too. Home for lunch every day at 11:30 and alway ham and eggs. He only drank one brand of soda, Coca-Cola. And he only smoked one brand of cigar, Travis Club Senators. Pretty cool old man. I bet he was smoking a Travis Club in this picture. He passed away in 2007 at age 88.
From the looks of that license plate and bumper he pushed a few cars, probably to get their attention.

That picture of Enchanted Rock...it looks like an easy stroll to the top, but it isn't! Not for me it wasn't at least.

I’ve been a couple times to Ft Worth, Dallas and San Antonio and there are many places in Texas on my “I’m goin to see it” list. My best friend was from Texas and he always said I should have been a Texan. I dunno, maybe so. I will say that if I ever had to leave the great state of NC, Texas will be under hard consideration.

I’m with you on all these except this one. We have the REAL “What-A-Burger” restaurants in NC. The TX based version has a wider variety of burgers, the NC based version has a wider variety of offerings on the menu as long as you like it fried. I’ve eaten at several of each and therefore I am qualified to make this call: overall, the NC What-A-Burger is better than the TX whataburger.
It’s a running joke between myself and a coworker. Lol!

I can't argue the merits of NC's knockoff Whataburger, but do they serve breakfast taquitos?... Spicy ketchup?...ncrobb wrote: ↑Sun Sep 19, 2021 8:51 amI’m with you on all these except this one.
