There are 3 load levels for the 45/70. 18k PSI, for older guns, 40k PSI for modern lever actions, and 50-55k PSI for the Ruger #1 and converted Siamese Mausers. I have a Siamese Mauser that takes hotter loads than I can stand, and a Wesson and Harrington Buffalo Classic that I shoot only slightly warm loads in.
