Truly, I can see myself doing the same thing and making the same assumptions about how they fit. So, I can't be too hard on ya!

Not going to mock you.. given how long it took me to figure out how to open my first vacuum sealed tin, I have no grounds to give anyone a hard time.

All's well that ends well. I'm glad it ended well.
I'm all thumbs about everything so I'm sure I would have done the same thing if I was you.
I still remember my first wind cap..... *sigh*... we made beautiful music together. I'm sure you are going to fall in love with yours, too, now that you know front from back. The difference is important. Keep your ash in your bowl and smoke in good health.

Well... Everyone ........It turned windy yesterday afternoon. I couldn't resist.
I took out 3 different pipes, A Peterson bentwood (my baby !) an unknown
straight Briar, and a straight Dunhill.
Because of the strange shape of the Peterson bowl, shaved/slanted at front,
the cap fitted, but had a small gap, front and back.
Not a problem. Trying a Dr Plumb, and a couple of others this morning
