It's a miracle that I'm getting another one in today. Double down (the stuff that I pressed and added perique or dfk to) in the little kaywoodie super grain apple while I get some gorgeous chunks of cherry ready for epoxy.

For all we know that might be the FDA approved coloring used in the coating for Medico/KW.Houtenziel wrote: ↑Sat Sep 18, 2021 10:24 am You think you could mix in some activated charcoal for coloring? I am a fan of the YB/KW coating myself, but was wondering if maybe some charcoal might smooth out the break-in funk.
Three and a half pound cut means 3 1/2 pounds of dry shellac dissolved into one gallon of denatured. Do the math to scale it down to what you want and add some activated charcoal, let us know how it goes. I like breaking in uncoated pipes but some estates could use a coating after being reamed back once you see the thermal strain the wood sustained. Actually, I have used shellac and activated charcoal on estates but never did the math so I have no idea what cut or percentage of charcoal.
