Hey friends,
I bought a meer from Europe, the thing came packed with cake. It has some very dark brown spots so the thing was definitely smoked a lot for many years.
Anyway, did the salt thing, took out all the cake, scrubbed the thing like crazy and left it to rest and dry for one week. Went for the first smoke, loaded it with Orlik and on the char light I could already taste the lakeland.
Sh#t.
Well, another salt treatment, now leaving it over night and loading it up with more alcohol as it absorbed after that I submerged the damn thing in a tub of water and vodka for 3 hours. Left to dry and smoke it. Lakeland.
Double Sh#t.

What to do?!?! Help please!

Keep smoking the pipe until it goes away. I'd say your looking at about 10 bowls.

Silly question here but are you cleaning the stem REALLY well?
...and +1 on NO salt.

IMHO, don't put anything into a meer, even for cleaning, that you are not willing to taste.

Smoking it is the best way to remove the taste, I've had 3 pipes that were tainted with tobacco remains, 1 with Latakia, 1 with something that tasted like flowers, (pleasant actually), and 1 with M79. Smoking them is what got rid of it, even the M79!

Thanks guys for the tips. I figured the salt was not a great idea but it was so much cake that I could not even fit a piece of sand paper or a tool to scrape it. Do you guys have a way to remove cake from a meer without salt?

AngraMelo, Careful, careful scraping, even if you must start with something really small like the pick on a pipe tool. Take your time and do it bit by bit. I use a dull edge for cleaning out the bowl. In fact, I use the spoon on my Czech pipe tool. I just take a great deal of care and get all of the bowl that I can and use the pick for the very bottom. Lots of bristle pipe cleaners for the stem. If the stem is choked up I will soak a pipe cleaner in brandy or bourbon and let it sit in there for a little bit, then take bristle cleaners to it. I do not mind smoking the flavor of brandy or bourbon!

Get your drill and bits, with no power lock the chuck and gradually bore out the cake manually working your way through your bit sizes.
