I purchased and received (today) a new DG Royalton Pot with Lucite Stem from WV Smokeshop. This is supposed to be the highest quality DG currently produces. The pipe was $47.95, and I must say the fit and finish is very good. I will dull the finish even more so, bevel the rim and scrub out the bowl coating before starting the break-in. My first out-of-the-box impression is quite favorable . . .

Kevin: Thank you and nice to see you back.
PA: The mods would be difficult to show before/after. I ran a drill bit down the shank to clean of bowl coating. I cleaned out all of the bowl coating down to briar with Everclear and wiped some of the excess stain away with the same. I beveled the top of the chamber (to accommodate my loading style to the top and then some). I coated the chamber with diluted honey (have done so with every new pipe I have broken in for the last 50 plus years). I have yet to funnel the mouthpiece but will likely do so.
I have smoked my first break-in bowl of Three Sails to complete ash (my usual break-in tobacco).
I will reach out to DG to see if the Pot is available in smooth finish pending how this pipe progresses.

Got my estate pipe last night! It's only got a bit of a scuff on the left side of the rim and the stem is only lightly oxidized. Now to figure out the vintage. But based on reading on the Peterson book website, it's likely a first generation run Kildare, likely from the 70s or 80s. Will take some better shots once I get her restored!

1950 - 1989 is the period for this pipe. Nice pipe.KeizerPiper wrote: ↑Thu Feb 27, 2025 2:43 pm Got my estate pipe last night! My New Nuttens Prince. Very glad for whoever let this one go. Normally not a prince fan but this one hits my fancy. Straight as an arrow

That is a nice one. I’m not partial to the prince either, but that is one that I wouldn’t mind having! I have a 315 Savinelli that I like very much but it is the only prince I have.Piping Abe wrote: ↑Sat Mar 08, 2025 2:35 pm My New Nuttens Prince. Very glad for whoever let this one go.
