Only your lips have more nerve endings than your fingertips. What is the best medicine of all for cracked and bleeding lips?
I'll tell you:
Don't take chances, take Chapstick! If you're getting pricked by bristly pipe cleaners, I hear Chapstick will help you heal up more quickly and soften your skin.

No amount if over-the-counter emollients are going to cure my dislike of these bristly pipe cleaners. I've been using them almost exclusively the past couple of days and no matter how much I want to turn this frown upside down, this is how much I look forward to picking up another bristly pipe cleaner: Again?!?
Yes, again for awhile. I did just use a soft pipe cleaner to stop a gurgle in my Tsuge. The bristly one's won't fit through the mouthpiece. I have to disassemble the stem from the bowl in mid smoke to clear a gurgle with a bristly pipe cleaner. No problem but I felt I had pushed too much gunk from the back end to the mouth end with the bristly pipe cleaner so I found a BJ Long softee to clear the mouth bit at the lip.
It's no wonder that ladies prefer the feeling of a BJ Long against their skin over a Brigsten's. Only a masochist enjoys being pricked in the fingertips. The problem with the name BJ Long is that it makes this conversation sound much more pornographic than it really is. I prefer a soft BJ Long pipe cleaner over a bristly pricker bush of a pipe cleaner. YMMV.
I like my pipe cleaners more like Conway Twitty....

Always keep bristle cleaners on hand . . . in particular the long taper.

I just keep the standard length around, but I don't have many long stems. You know the the famous desert island tobacco question? If I had to pick a desert island pipe cleaner, it would be the tapered bristle. I have a couple of p-lip pipes and a few Kaywoodies with stingers that prefer a non-bristle just to be small enough to navigate the curves, but otherwise I am all about the tapered bristle cleaner.

I'm a Dill's man, prickly or soft. I also discovered BPA free metal straw cleaners, they flex and have a little rubber nipple on the end which acts as a safe bump stop if you hit the chamber wall. They come in various sizes and lengths and they are washable.
