SPRT in a Charatan 484 DC again

Beautiful grain and birdseye on that pipe.
Thanks! It is a great smoker...

This pipe was "thrown in" with a trade. It has had a hard life. There are cigarette burns on a couple of places from where it was put in an ash tray. The shank was cracked and banded. There had been some charring in the bowl, and a previous owner had recut the chamber to get most of the burnt bit out. I knew a pipe that someone banded/recut had to be a good smoker. I am quite fond of this 484 DC shape.

I consider it an opportunity for redemption.

In general I am a function over form guy. It is more important for me to have it work well. The appearance is a secondary concern.

Pegasus in a Marxman Benchmade

This is last full bowl of Pegasus from this pound bag. I "think" I am out of Pegasus. Next bag to open will probably be LC VaBur. I know I have some Double Down too. We will see which one I find first.

Super Value Buttered Rum tobacco in my Yello-Bole Spartan. It's a large-bowled pipe, square on the outside, round on the inside. It's brylon. It has a barbell stinger. The stem and bit are made of that comfortable-in-a-clench drug store pipe material that yields in a clench but don't get get marred by teeth marks under usual pressure. This pipe is a winner in ever one of its selling points. If you are turned off by brylon, by a stinger, or by a bit that is made of a plastic you can't name, this pipe won't be for you. You are a churl. For me, though, no offense, this pipe delivers a dream of a smoke. I don't know why I take these photos on the WSJ editorial and letters page, except that's when I think of doing it.

I can't get a good picture of the stamping on the stummel but it's written in what we in the typography field call Greek letters. I am sure @SidStavros would disagree that the letters are really Greek, but I am also sure he understands----who wants subtitles on a pipe stem?

Double Down in a Charatan 484 DC

This is a nice batch of Double Down. It is a little lighter in color than the last one. I am definitely getting perique. It is like a slightly sweeter OJK with an earthy edge. Cut is pretty random with a few thumb-sized bits of leaf and a few hunks of partially rubbed out flake. Mostly is is a rough cut/shopped medium-wide ribbon.
