Go for it....live and learn.I have so many opinions on booze and food because I have shied away from none of it.Korean whiskey in a sari sari store at 0200 in Pusan,Australian rot gut in Perth, some homemade stuff they call whiskey in the Philippines and my old Navy Teammate's North Carolina shine........I call it the Devils brew at 160 proof.Hell the devil himself would choke on this stuff uncut, however tamed to 100-110 proof it's the best shine I ever had.

Listen, life is too short to skimp on things like whiskey and pipe tobacco. But in either case, the most expensive is not usually the best. And when it comes to whiskey, especially bourbon, it is usually not as good. But you will come out cheaper in the long run if you just try what they have at the bar, or buy a few bottles to find the direction that you're taste buds are pointing.
You have gotten some good advice hear, now get out there and drink!

@mrpipster, I've drunk plenty of Mellow Corn. I think it's fantastic, and perhaps one of the very best values in whisky there is! It's a 4 year aged 100 proof straight corn whisky, bottled-in-bond, so a bit of a unicorn. It's remarkably easy to sip. Has a very clean and lightly sweet flavor profile that makes you want to keep on sippin' away. Tastes a bit like an Irish, but sweeter and less austere. Here in SoCal, when I'm lucky enough to find some, it costs me about $14 a bottle. Don't hesitate to get some.
Because sometimes the body just wants canned fish.
Wow late reply. I do not drink alcohol anymore. I never did try it though.Puff nstuff wrote: ↑Thu Sep 30, 2021 1:14 am @mrpipster, I've drunk plenty of Mellow Corn. This is available pretty much everywhere in KY, and I saw a bottle(750ml) for 7.99 the other day. I do agree though.. it drinks way above it's price point, even at 14 bucks. There are dozens of odd labeled, Kentucky only, bottom shelf-ers that are pretty fantastic too. I almost always snag a under $10 weird bottle when I buy something "better", and I am almost always impressed. Jim Beam's "Old Tub" is another one where I can't understand how they can produce something so good for so cheap.Puff nstuff wrote: ↑Thu Sep 30, 2021 1:14 am @mrpipster, I've drunk plenty of Mellow Corn. It's statements like this that make me want to put Kentucky on the list of places to live when the missus is done with her run at the countyHoutenziel wrote: ↑Thu Sep 30, 2021 6:59 amThis is available pretty much everywhere in KY, and I saw a bottle(750ml) for 7.99 the other day. Its corn whiskey . That should tell you something right there .
Its uncomplicated , no doubt , the finish is corn and grain taste and pretty quick . Sure , for corn whiskey , its pretty good , especially compared to whatever uncle Enis was making etc .. However , for the same price as that stuff you could buy a bottle of Evan Willaims Black Label Bourbon . Its Bourbon , Pip , and pretty good Bourbon to boot . Or , a bottle of Henry McKenna 80 proof , which is a bit higher in the rye mash compared to Evan Williams black . Both are excellent for their price , imho
If you want to expand your horizons , while youre at it , buy some Mad Dog , some Ripple , Canadian Hunter whiskey and some boones Farm .... youll be well rounded in what isnt very good after that , if you catch my drift
The reason why Corn whiskey is even being talked about is because the " craft " whiskey folks are making it because the shit theyve made isnt even ready as a bourbon , so corn whiskey is something to sell in the mean time too , again , imho
Dont get me wrong . Theres nothing wrong with Corn Whiskey but [ Id drink it ] , as far as the OP of have you had any experience with this stuff ... Yes I have , which is why I recommend Evan Williams Black or Henry McKenna 80 proof because its the same price point and the two I mentioned , and others , I just think youd enjoy more

Kentucky KNOWS how to make whiskey. You can pay a lot more money to buy something half as good as their worst.Mr Beardsley wrote: ↑Thu Sep 30, 2021 1:51 pmIt's statements like this that make me want to put Kentucky on the list of places to live when the missus is done with her run at the countyHoutenziel wrote: ↑Thu Sep 30, 2021 6:59 amThis is available pretty much everywhere in KY, and I saw a bottle(750ml) for 7.99 the other day. God and Texas!
My favorite bourbon is Old Granddad Bond, which is a high rye mash. I am pretty sure that I would not like a pure corn mash. Rebel Yell is close I think, and I don't like it. I have had pure corn moonshine, but it was such high proof that my taste buds were temporarily destroyed.
