All I know is that camping fuel works fine in a Zippo
I’ve read that Zippo expected their lighters to be used with gasoline by soldiers in the field in WWII. I’m not gonna do that though.

Not exactly, but yes, in a way.
Actually the word naphtha means diesel in some countries and gasoline in others. The word should be obsolete. Gasoline is refined from naphtha. Naphtha has an octane rating of 55 or less while gasoline is 85 and above.
Lighter fluid has a lower flash point than gasoline and burns much cooler. Coleman fuel is closer to gasoline than to lighter fluid. You can use it, but it will burn hotter and evaporate faster.
"It should be noted that liquid ignitability is only one of the two major aspects to flammable or combustible liquid’s inherent fire hazard. The other factor that contributes to a flammable or combustible liquid’s hazard is its Heat Release Rate (HRR) or the amount of heat given off while it’s burning. As an example, both lighter fluid and gasoline are considered flammable liquids. However, gasoline burns much, much hotter than lighter fluid, making it a greater fire hazard."

I take umbrage with that view. If you were here with me, I would slap you with my glove.

I do not understand the hate for the taste of zippo fuel. I find no difference to speak of vs. butane, taste-wise.
Though I will admit I like the taste of matches, for convenience's sake, I'll take naphtha any day. It is more reliable than anything else I have tried to keep tobacco consistently lit.

I have also read that this is true. I am not going to try gasoline, either. Mostly because I cannot purchase a tiny, handheld can of gasoline with a little spout to fill my Zippo.Kevin Keith wrote: ↑Mon Oct 10, 2022 8:00 am I’ve read that Zippo expected their lighters to be used with gasoline by soldiers in the field in WWII. If they had a Zippo-sized pump at the Truckers' Paradise Fuel Express Truck Stop-and-Go, I would definitely do it for convenience's sake.

I would prefer to not burden your wife by disabling you. Let any disagreements between us be between gentlemen.
You may feel differently, but, I would hate for us to come to fisticuffs over naphtha.
