Good Morning PSF,

I just wanted to say hello. I had my first bowl this last Monday and have so much to learn.

Presbyterian Mixture in a Ser Jacopo smooth bent apple Churchwarden.

I found the smoke rather harsh, but things are improving. Since then I have tried Peter Stokkebye PS400 Luxury Navy Flake and Capstan Origin Navy cut, but found them to burn much hotter and am back to the Presbyterian for breaking in my pipes.

Warmest Regards,
Richard

Hello and welcome. Take it slow. There are many variables that effect how it all works together. The cut of the blend, how it’s packed, the weather, the pipe, the person, the blend. There’s no magic formula or specific process but you’ll find some good guidance around here. One day - bam - you’ll just get it.

Welcome aboard, from another Richard. I find taking it slowly the best way to combat harshness, though some (mainly aromatics for me) are harsh anyway. Everyone is different, what bites some might not others. Try and keep it as slow and cool as possible, it's fine if it goes out.

Good luck anyway and I hope you enjoy your time here :buddy:
