I had a 4x10 and a 1x18 set up. I wanted the versatility of a 15, but I think I'd dig the boomy-ness of the 18 now. I can't remember which Ampeg head I had... Something solid state.

You can always find a gig in New Orleans.Piping Abe wrote: ↑Thu Dec 07, 2023 11:10 amI much prefer to play the Jug and washboard these daysTsal wrote: ↑Thu Dec 07, 2023 11:04 amI bet you got the whole class dancing!Piping Abe wrote: ↑Thu Dec 07, 2023 10:50 am I played the Triangle and the wood block in the 4th grade. I Liked 8 10's because they pushed a lot and cut through.

Nice! Nothing like vibrating the whole room.Thelonious monkfish wrote: ↑Thu Dec 07, 2023 11:07 amNice, bet with all those 10s it was like a unrelenting flurry of punchy ass mids. My favorite set up was an SVT with a couple 15s and 4x10s, that rig broke things that I had to pay for/replace.
The bass driver rounded everything out but gave me a percussive attack off the strings. Paul D'Amour knows, ask him. Lol

@Tsal Do you have any recordings of your band back in the day? Do you still play at all?

As Mr Beardsley noted, buying more power than you need not a bad thing. I’ve rarely seen a small amp that sounds as good as a bigger one, esp tube amps. I have a couple of small tube practice amps I built years ago. They sound good but they don’t move air like bigger amps. With large watt amps an attenutor can be your friend. If you find a deal on a 100 watt Ampeg, Sunn or Bassman grab it up and build or buy an attenuator. Cranked tone and the wife can still sleep in the next room.

No, my musical arts days are over. I sold all my gear and given away all my basses to friends over the years. I' have everything I ever recorded.Presby John-Dave wrote: ↑Thu Dec 07, 2023 1:25 pm @Tsal Do you have any recordings of your band back in the day? Do you still play at all?

Agreed and you could also cram them in a rack case. It had too many buttons, lights and eq sliders for me to deal with. I kept it simple with tubes.Thelonious monkfish wrote: ↑Thu Dec 07, 2023 5:16 pmThose old SVTIII were nice, I had one years back and it sounded great.Tsal wrote: ↑Thu Dec 07, 2023 12:29 pmSVT III.Presby John-Dave wrote: ↑Thu Dec 07, 2023 11:38 am I had a 4x10 and a 1x18 set up. A heavy ass bass, phone cable strings, passive pickups, and tube power is what all those fancy esoteric lights and switches aim to emulate. Wanna sound like Jamerson? Dead ass strings a mute and lots of tubes.
