Just to let you folks know, my father-in-law died unexpectedly yesterday. He was 82.

My wife left yesterday for the coast. I am tying up loose ends and will leave tomorrow.

Condolences. Have a safe trip, brother. Your father looked like a real man's man, much like my grandfather's did. Interesting career and small world. I believe I escorted rollers a couple times out of that mill in Charleston.

He was a hard-working man who married young and did not have a 4-year college degree. He was in an era when you could still work your way into management without an MBA or whatever. He was a farm boy at heart and retired to his parents' farm where he maintained a Model A tractor and bushhogged, etc. He always had a garden.

His mother, Jewel, was really a saint of the church. She had a profound impact on my wife.
